Within the context of permanent and continuous activities of the Balkan Environment Center, as the scientific support of its shareholders and in particular the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace in environmental issues, BEC successfully implemented the project “Operational monitoring of river systems in the Greek part of the transboundary Strymon river basin in the year 2010″, to support the actions of the Water Directorate of Central Macedonia on the implementation of Directive 2000/60/EC”
Within this project, BEC held the 2010 sampling and analysis of physical, chemical and biological (including benthic macroinvertebrates) quality parameters of water bodies, recorded the water quantity parameters and hydromorphological characteristics, and assessed the ecological status of water bodies in the Greek part of the transboundary Strymon river basin, according to the standards of Directive 2000/60/EC.
