i-BEC promotes a collaborative approach to sustainable management and protection of natural resources that fosters harmonious socio-economic development in Greece, the broader Balkan region and beyond. Specifically, i-BEC aims at:
the scientific support with regards to the structures of government for implementing strategies and policies as well as for sustaining development at local, regional, national and international level
the improvement of competiveness of the private sector through the sustainable use of natural resources in production processes and activities
the sustainable management and protection of the environment and natural resources
Innovation
Taking into account the needs of the public and private sector and most importantly the needs of the local communities, i-BEC innovates, while at the same time:
offers integrated solutions, which responds to the environmental and developmentalneeds
at local, regional and interregional levels
develops and carries knowledge towards the end users
accelerates inter-sectoral and inter-regional cooperation
facilitates consultation processes between actors and the governance of social partners
In order to achieve all the above,i-BEC applies the following innovative and contemporary approaches:
Services in one stop – Provision of centralized services for saving time, improving efficiency and ensuring quality.
Bottom up approach – Creation of an open dialogue amongst all interested partners and members; providing scientific expertise to the local community thereby gaining a strong background on actions and projects for sustainable development.
After the project support – Ensurance of sustainability following completion of projects.
Innovation is «translated» into mutual benefits for all partners (win-win situation) without substituting and competing each other. Public administration uses reliable scientific data which support decisions, while in the private sector innovated products are developed and new business opportunities and jobs are created. Finally, the public benefits by having better resource management, improving the quality of life.
