Assessing the role of Irrigation on the Water Basin of the Lake Koronia

BEC collected and evaluated data regarding agricultural activities and management of irrigation water in sub-watershed of the Lake Koronia basin.

The following next steps in this process include recording:

  •   Number of groundwater wells
  •  Total area irrigated
  •  Total volume of water pumped for irrigation

The above will provide the first definitive data on defining the water budget of the Lake Koronia basin and provide both qualitative and quantitative perspectives of impacts on Lake Koronia and directions for their solution.

BEC proposed a series of regulatory and institutional measures that can be adopted by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and other bodies to save considerable amounts of water while ensuring the economy of this rural area.
