Calibration of hyper-spectral data for improved EO based soil monitoring
Healthy soils are essential to securing food security, support biodiversity and human livelihood. Copernicus programme and the forthcoming hyper- spectral satellite missions [EnMAP] are going to address all domains of the terrestrial ecosystem, including the soils. The utility of this growing volume of Earth Observations [EO] and derived data products for operational services is crucially dependent on the proper calibration of the instruments and modelling techniques, as well as validation of the products.
IBEC establishes strong linkages with the international community [GFZ-German Research Center for Geosciences and Tel Aviv University] working on issues relating to calibration and validation of hyper-spectral data and EO based soil monitoring. Under a joint research airborne and in situ campaign [16-20/9/2019], a hyper-spectral flight combined with in situ soil sampling for calibration was performed by a joint research team, in Greece, Vegoritida [Zazari] river basin.
IBEC is going to investigate the essential connection between space component, in situ component and EO services for evaluation of land degradation and develop improved EO-based soil monitoring & quality information services in support of GEOGLAM, EU CAP and agro industry. Through Horizon2020-e-shape, the recent modelling results and GEO-CRADLE Soil Spectral Library will be incorporated into e-shape Agriculture Showcase pilots and will be extended to new countries. IBEC will exploit advanced technical capacities of Earth Observation data sources in combination with in situ measurements, and novel deep learning modeling results.
STAY TUNED, WE WILL KEEP YOU e-shaped!
